Chhath Puja Ghats in Delhi NCR: How Families Manage Arghya

Chhath is a river festival, and most of Delhi NCR is not near a river. Here is how arghya is usually arranged across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
Chhath is a river festival, and most of us in Delhi NCR are nowhere near a river. Over the years the region has worked out its own arrangements — some official, many put together by RWAs and families. Here is roughly how it works, so you can plan the Sandhya and Usha arghya without a last-minute scramble.
Delhi: the Yamuna ghats
Every year the Delhi government and the DDA prepare and clean a list of permitted Chhath ghats along the Yamuna. Long-standing ones include the stretches near ITO, Kalindi Kunj, Kudsia Ghat, Geeta Colony and Sonia Vihar — but the exact list, the barricading and the parking change from year to year, and some ghats are dropped or moved. Always check the current year's official notification before deciding where to go.
Things people learn the hard way:
- Reach the Sandhya arghya ghat well before sunset. Crowds and traffic around ITO and Kalindi Kunj build up quickly.
- Usha arghya means being at the ghat before first light. Sort out the cab or the drive the night before.
- Carry your own mat, a torch and drinking water. Facilities at the ghats are basic.
Noida and Greater Noida
Many sectors have a community park with a pond, and the authority and RWAs set up temporary ghats and water tanks for Chhath. The larger sector parks and stadium grounds commonly host arghya, and a lot of Greater Noida societies run their own. If you live in a society, ask the RWA early — the better spots fill up, and some take names in advance.
Gurugram
Gurugram has no river, so Chhath here runs almost entirely on society and sector arrangements: an artificial pond, a large water tank, or a roped-off section of a community park. Some of the bigger condominiums build a proper temporary ghat every year. Check with your RWA in the week Chhath booking opens; if your society does not organise one, a neighbouring sector sometimes allows outside families.
Ghaziabad and Faridabad
Ghaziabad has ghats along the Hindon that the Nagar Nigam prepares each year; Faridabad families often use the Yamuna side or a society pond. As everywhere else — confirm the current year's arrangements locally rather than assuming last year's spot is open.
What to carry to the ghat
Keep a lighter set ready so you are not hauling everything: the soop with the arghya offerings, the lota, a few diyas, a matchbox, sindoor, and a mat. The rest of the puja stays at home.
Timing the samagri
If you are ordering your Chhath samagri, sugarcane and fruit, aim for a Kharna-morning delivery so everything is fresh for the two arghyas. Our Chhath Puja kits bundle the puja items; sugarcane, gagra nimbu and seasonal fruit are added fresh.
